April 30th ~ Koralyn's Birthday Party

koralyn decided she wanted to go horseback riding for her birthday this year. Between juggling the alternating schedule with her dad and Easter, April 30th was the weekend i decided to throw her the party.

I worked with Bunker Hills, and let me say they were wonderful. I would highly recommend them ~ originally we were going to do horseback riding, a hayride and bonfire, but the forecast, as the date drew near, was not looking good. I reluctantly cancelled the hayride & bonfire, but kept the pony rides, knowing we would be able to ride inside an arena if it was raining. Fortunately the weather cleared up in time for the party and the kids got to enjoy riding outdoors!

Koralyn insisted everyone dress up like cowboys/girls, and was very happy to show off her "Jessie" (from Toy Story, which if you remember, she dressed up as for Hallowen last year) poses in her cowgirl attire.

She even got Mom into the spirit ~ somehow Darren got off the hook and didn't have to wear a hat, but I guess he was sporting the boots so that counts!

We had some fun outside waiting for everyone to show up. Koralyn couldn't resist getting her picture taken in the cardboard cutout, and was so excited she just had to dance, dance, dance!

So...the party started inside a party room, where we ate and koralyn tore into her presents. And of course, had cake...

In attendance ~
Grandma Linda & Grandpa John (earlier Koralyn said, "Mommy, you know who is going to really like dressing up like a cowgirl? Grandma Linda. she has lots of clothes like that")

~ Auntie Heidi, Uncle Scott, Avery & Isaac ~

My life-long friend, Katie, showed up with Lily and Jack. Katie and I have been friends since kindergarten, and I know it's a friendship built for life!

It has given us so much joy to watch our own two daughters become friends and play together. Unfortunately we don't live close enough for the girls to play together at the level Kate and I did (which was like every day...) but it sometimes stops me for a moment to realize the friend i've had since i was five now has a six year old, who plays with MY six year old!!!)

Austin came ready to party in his cowboy outfit. Again, to reference this past Halloween, I have a great photo of Koralyn as Jessie and Austin as Woody...this was almost Halloween all over again!

Angie was a bridesmaid in my wedding to Koralyn's dad. We met because she was neighbors with a guy i dated when i was 18 (which is also how i met my wonderful husband ~)and we stayed friends. Unfortunately we lost touch, but a couple years ago she tracked me down because she heard i was dating Darren. our friendship picked right back up where it left off, and now we get together quite a bit, especially in the summer! And Nate and Darren seem to enjoy each other's company, too...

Our next door neighbors, Drew, Andrea, Lili and Will showed up, after they turned around to go back home because Andrea forgot k's present (which she text me to tell me they would be late...very funny!!!) We really couldn't ask for better neighbors, and are fortunate the girls are getting to the age they can finally "play nice" (you'll have to read some of my other blogs involving Lili to understand that comment). Oh, and i was a little slow with the camera for these three, but managed to get a pic of these three at the end of the party ~

Our other neighbors, Aaron and Celest, came with Chloe (who is still a little too young to really play with Lili and Koralyn, but that time is coming soon...) and the newest addition, Nick. Unfortunately i didnt get a picture of k with Chloe, but got this one of Chloe by herself...what a cutie!!!

Adam brought Aubree. Unfortunately Julie was unable to attend (she was in Vegas, lucky lady) but i was very glad Adam and Aubree made the party!

Jenny is a close friend i've had since we both worked at Kirsch Fabrics. Many stories and memories (most of them good) from that job together, and we've continued to stay close after Kirsch closed its doors. (one of my fondest memories is going to see Lord of the Rings, Return of the King midnight showing. we didnt get back to Jenny's house until 4am, and had to go to work a couple hours later!) Jenny just brought her own bundle of joy into the world, Kayla. Now we both have a "k"!

After presents (and cake) it was time for the pony rides! Koralyn got to choose the horse she wanted (named Widget). Except for the two babies, all the kids got to ride a horse. All kids had an adult to lead their horse, and Grandma Linda was the lucky choosen one to lead the birthday girl (Koralyn decided the day of her actual birthday).

Chloe didn't go far, but she enjoyed the few minutes she was on!

Lili saw her horse, um, take a poo, and decided she had enough. Will thoroughly enjoyed his ride, and has since asked for a pony. Actually, the first time i saw him after the party, he asked me if we were going to ride a pony!!!

Avery, being 10 years old, got to ride an adult horse. He recently started taking riding lessons, so i was very glad he had the opportunity he did.

Talk about two good-looking cowboys!!!

Isaac and Heidi made the rounds ~

As did Adam and Aubree ~

And Nate and Austin ~

Grandma John got to enjoy the pony rides, leading Jack. Katie was with Lily, and Jack had no problem having GJ lead him around the trail. I think by the end of the ride, Jack was officially the Lone Ranger!

Here's some more fun photos from the trail ride ~

What a fun, fun day it was. Although it was a difficult task to plan an outdoor party, it turned out to be a beautiful afternoon and i am so glad the kids got to ride outside. i cannot thank everyone enough for coming and sharing in this special, once-in-a-lifetime GOLDEN birthday for Koralyn ~
